Book: Stakeholder politics (Boutilier 1e 2009)

Stakeholder politics (1e 2009).
Boutilier, R. (2009). Stakeholder politics: Social capital, sustainable development, and the corporation. Stanford, Calif: Stanford Business Books. ISBN 9781906093150

Review:
It took me a few weeks to get through my previous book Modern Auditing and Assurance Services. I am a captive audience while I am on the exercise cycle at the gym, so I may as well read topics I normally wouldn't seek out, like: auditing; chronic illness or stakeholder relations.
The Worldcat subject categories listed for Boutilier's book include: Corporate governance; Social capital (Sociology); Social networks; Social responsibility of business; and, Sustainable development. Even though Boutilier is ultimately trying to sell you a corporate service based around 3DSC (Three Dimensional Social Capital; see p.12) his work highlights how organised groups create myth around their concept of the situation to attract media and supporter attention, often to the detriment of a corporate entity. Boutilier articulates some of the tools and methods he uses to identify these stakeholders and their methods; and that, I find, very interesting. He supports this book with very good research from a wide range of credible authors. I'll be looking forward to following up on Boutilier's research.
