Review
Mum (Val) loved statistics... I think that gene (you know, the "I love stats" gene) skipped a generation in my case... I have used Excel up to around MS Office 2000 for small business and project budgeting; and for a digital photograph repository for using mail-merge to create catalogues (that was using Excel v4; then I swapped to tables in MS Word 2000 from memory). I did use the spreadsheet function in MS Works for Windows 3.1 (remember MS Works?) but it was fairly limited.
Then came Excel 2007, and it was a game-changer. There were a huge amount of features added as PC memory sizes grew exponentially and cpus could handle multiple tasks. I got this copy (cheaply!) mainly to study up on the statistics chapter; it has taken over ten years for me to finally pick up the book and read it cover to cover. I can understand why it took so long. It is an excellent reference, except... there are a lot of flaws in the editing of the examples. Simple things like changing a "$" sign to an "E" (p.801) could really mess with a reference. You have been warned. Use at your discretion.

Other reading of related texts
Coffin, C., & Wadman, T. (1985). The HP-12C Pocket Guide: Just In Case. Portland, Ore: Grapevine Publications.
A long time ago, around the time I was reading Byte Magazine, I saw a couple of copies of The HP-12C Pocket Guide: Just In Case. It had been recommended in Byte as in the mid-1980s Personal Computers were still running with less than 1Meg of RAM and spreadsheets were still a novelty. I was earning a meagre wage as a radio producer and I wanted to learn how to manage my income better, and using PCs and calculators seemed the way of the future.
In the days before the internet and access to online tutorials, little pocket books like this were very handy: even if you didn't own the hardware it related to. It was a pared-down version of a larger tutorial book: An easy course in using the HP-12C and other HP financial calculators.
Considering this little book was held in such high esteem by its reviewer, it seems strange that Worldcat doesn't seem to identify its ISBN or any copies in any library. I was able to trace the authors and the larger book through Worldcat. I have included the ISBN off the back of the smaller book; and some others attributed to it but still not functional.
ISBN 0-931011-12-4 [9780931011122, 0931011051, 9780931011054]
On Worldcat I did find the lager book:
Coffin, C., & Wadman, T. (1984). An easy course in using the HP-12C and other HP financial calculators. Portland, Ore: Grapevine Publications.
