Review
Until I read Washburn: Over one hundred years of fine stringed instruments I was unaware of how large and influential the Washburn group of companies has been to modern stringed instrument playing and production. Learning guitar in the 1980s in Australia, I was led to believe that Washburn was mainly Asian made instruments mass produced for the USA market; locally (in Australia), they were considered a budget brand. (Don't forget: it was during this time that the Fender brand was probably saved by Japanese production and export.) Now I understand that Washburn has been a foundational producer of a wide range of musical instruments that can trace its production and sales back to the late nineteenth century. I have a strong respect for the author and researcher John Teagle because of a small, but thoroughly researched, reference book on Fender guitar amplifier production until 1995 (see his Fender Amps book, below).
