Book: Australian handbook of public sector management (Halligan Nutley Aulich 2001)

Australian handbook of public sector management (2001)

Halligan, J., Nutley, S. M., & Aulich, C. (Eds.)(2001). Australian handbook of public sector management. Crows Nest, N.S.W: Allen & Unwin.

Unfortunately, if the Chapter (14) on Change management is an indication of the standard of research and editorial review for the rest of the book, this book should be avoided. However, while many authors of change management are too lazy or too stupid to read Kurt Lewin's 1947 article and to understand why his simple model for change is Unfreeze-Change-Freeze, the authors of the other chapters do appear to have something useful to write about.
Not a long read; but gives some insight as to how Australian Public Service (Federal) and Public Sector Governance has moved from being process-focussed (1901 until 1970s), then managerial-focussed (1980s); client-focussed (early 1990s) to being market-focussed (mid-late 1990s)(see p.178)
