One of the main reference books for my postgraduate studies in communications, 'Beckhard and Harris' is a good starting point as a reference text for understanding the management of change. I like change management books that consider the psychological impact on people undergoing Organisational Change Management (OCM); some of the books on OCM I read give little consideration to people but are tailored around unidirectional marketing methodologies or are really off topic in their purpose...
I like a Kotter-Lewin-Bridges approach to Change. Kotter has Eight (8) Steps; Lewin presented change in Three (3) Steps; and Bridges takes a psychological approach in Three (3) Steps.
Don't forget a couple of things about Kurt Lewin's change model: (1) Unfreezing-Moving-Freezing: if you see it presented in another format you know the author is a lazy idiot who can't be bothered doing a bit of basic research; and (2) Lewin first presented (published) this model circa 1947 (see p.34 of the journal; that is p.32 of the PDF.).
