This book is a great read. So much of our healthcare systems are devoted to acute care because acute care gets the headlines, gets the votes, and gets the money. Yet so many of us live with chronic health issues; even if it is only a mild chronic pain from an old injury it can have life changing implications.
I use mini post-it notes, instead of highlighter pens, to mark sections and ideas that I want to make note of or return to later. I must have got through half a pad of post-its on this book.
Besides being a good read this book is well-researched and cites previous authors' work where appropriate. I will keep it as I would like to return to it one day as it taught me much about how carers and the health care system needs to view those with chronic illness from a person-centered care approach.
